Don't let people tell you that GPA is unimportant.
While it is a bad metric and any reasonable person would immediately discard it, it is similar to h-index, JIF or CiteScore: your life depends on bean counters who can't see further than that.
The difference between perfect GPA and very good GPA is mild in terms of external judgement but lenient in terms of the marks themselves.
Despite having much better things to do, I still aimed at a GPA above 1.3 (German).
